As you know, I’m not a human resources specialist but, as we are a start up, I had to develop the role and start learning how to manage a group of people. First of all, it is not news that the IT Marketplace in South America is quite limited and we don’t have developers as ants, so this stuff it is even harder for someone like me.
What makes me nervous is that some developers are looking constantly for a new job just to extortionate their bosses. For instance, some came to me asking me for a job, and then, when everything is established they call me back to tell me: ‘I told my boss that you will pay me X then, he is going to pay me X+1 so, I will stay here, Thanks.’
I feel this like a lack of respect because, nothing is more important than time and having the feeling of losing time is a giant disappointment.
So, what I’m doing these days and I think it is an excellent solution is to ask the first interview if they are planning to use this job to ask for more money to their bosses. If it is that the case I tell them to feel free to tell that I offered a huge salary in order to achieve their salary raise but not to make me lose time. And since I started this new politics, the results are excellent. First of all, I only interview the people deeply interested in working in Wormhole. Then, I can totally select the stars and I can easily identify those brilliant minds. I’m extremely happy with the team we’ve formed and I only can speak marvelous things about all the boys.
The greatest thing to play the role of Human Resources is having the chance to implement all the things I used to dream when I was an employee. I have right now, the chance to make a difference and I’m doing my best to make it happen.
Alejandro Ponicke ( IT Community Consultant South Cone, Microsoft) y Gonzalo Moreno (Product Marketing Manager Dev Tools, Microsoft Latin America Southcone) together with Nacho, Maxi y Alan (our friend and collegue) during the launch 2008 of Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2008 y Windows Server 2008
Last night was the official presentation for the three new stars of Microsoft: Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008.
The event took place in Pepsi Music Stadium and they were about 1500 people.
It was a completely different launch because it was a soccer match between the ‘techie guys’ and the ‘soccer players’. The idea was to make an analogy between the soccer and how the three products help your company.
It was ok and totally funny, and for us was also a chance to see our friends and old partners.
It is also important to mention that ‘Pepsi & Hamburgers’ were the stars of the night.
But well, what I was willing to tell you is that Wormhole participated of this event as Launch Partner accompanying Microsoft in this new initiative.
We want to thanks to those that made this possible but especially to Martin Salias and Miguel Angel Saez who did their best.
I will upload some pictures later and maybe a video.
Once again, thank you for all the effort and let’s rock.
Last year I was a Software Design Competitor for IC and I had the chance to represent Argentina in the worldwide finals after winning the South Cone Regional Finals. It was an amazing experience.
We met the elite of the students around the world and we had the chance to share our knowledge with them. We also made friends and I have really good memories.
So, if I should give a piece of advice to any possible competitor I’d say to work hard, to have a good team and to enjoy the journey. It is not an easy task… it is more like a full time employment but it is totally worthy.
This year, I decided that I wouldn’t be a competitor anymore. However, I thought that I could help and this is why I’m working together with the IC team giving feedback, helping the TEAM and doing my best to improve even more the competition. My role right now is to be worldwide software design assistant captain working together with Guillaume Belmas (the captain) and Vincent Bellet (also AC, coach and judge for the French teams).
I’m also working on the South Cone Final by giving feedback based on my previous experience and by helping organizing the local final.
Pablo Michelis and Pablo Listingart are doing an excellent job for the local finals as well as Guillaume for the worldwide and I’m very happy to work with them.
For those who are still waiting the results or some answers, please be patient. There is a lot of work to do and we can’t not satisfy every single question immediately. However, we do our best and we answer as soon as possible.
Thank you and good luck competitors!
Enjoy the journey!
